Terms for Lawyers

1. Acceptance
By registering an account, claiming or managing a profile on Consulto, the lawyer or firm representative ("Professional") accepts these Terms for Lawyers, which supplement the general Terms of Service.
2. Eligibility
To register or claim a profile on Consulto, the Professional must:
- Be registered and in good standing with the Ordem dos Advogados of Portugal
- Be a legitimate representative of the listed firm (for firm profiles)
- Have legal capacity to accept these terms
3. Profiles and Content
3.1 Profile Information
The Professional is responsible for all information submitted on their profile, including:
- Name, contact details and professional address
- Practice areas and specialisations
- Profile photograph and firm logo
- Description of services
All information must be truthful, current and compliant with the ethical rules of the Ordem dos Advogados.
3.2 Content Restrictions
It is expressly prohibited to include in the profile:
- False or misleading information
- Comparative advertising that violates OA rules
- Defamatory content or content that violates third-party rights
- Guarantees of outcomes in judicial proceedings
- Fees that constitute unfair competition
3.3 Lei 6/2024
Consulto operates under Lei 6/2024 (Portuguese law that liberalised the rules on advertising of legal services). The Professional is responsible for ensuring that their profile content complies with this law and applicable ethical rules.
4. Plans and Features
4.1 Free Plan (Basic)
All listed lawyers have free access to a basic profile, including:
- Listing in the public directory
- Claiming and managing the profile
- Updating contact details and practice areas
4.2 Premium Plans
Consulto offers paid plans with additional features (Pro and Elite). The specific terms, pricing and features of each plan are described on the plans page.
Subscribing to a paid plan is voluntary and requires explicit opt-in. You will never be charged automatically without your consent.
4.3 Price Changes
Consulto will notify users at least 30 days in advance of any price changes to existing paid plans.
5. Identity Verification
Consulto may request documentation to verify the Professional's identity and credentials, including:
- Professional registration number (cédula)
- Email from the firm's domain
- Ordem dos Advogados registration documents
Successful verification may grant access to a "Verified Profile" badge in the directory, subject to the criteria of the subscribed plan.
6. Professional Responsibility
The Professional is solely responsible for:
- Keeping profile data up to date
- The quality and legal compliance of the services they provide
- Communications established with potential clients through Consulto
- Compliance with the ethical rules of the Ordem dos Advogados
- Any statements or representations made in the profile
7. Intellectual Property
The Professional grants Consulto a non-exclusive, royalty-free and transferable licence to use, reproduce and display the submitted content within the scope of the directory service.
The Professional represents that they hold the rights to all submitted content, including photographs and logos.
8. Suspension and Termination
8.1 Termination by the Professional
The Professional may cancel their account or request removal of their profile at any time by emailing info@consulto.pt. Removal will be processed within 5 working days.
8.2 Suspension by Consulto
Consulto may suspend or remove a profile without prior notice in the event of:
- Violation of these terms
- Demonstrably false or fraudulent information
- Suspension or cancellation of Ordem dos Advogados registration
- A judicial or regulatory decision
In other circumstances, the Professional will be notified in advance and given the opportunity to respond.
9. Personal Data
The processing of the Professional's personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy. The Professional has the rights provided for under the GDPR, including the right of access, rectification and erasure.
10. Limitation of Liability
Consulto does not guarantee a minimum number of contacts, leads or clients resulting from a presence in the directory. The service is provided "as is".
Consulto's total liability to the Professional, in any circumstances, shall not exceed the amount paid by the Professional to Consulto in the preceding 12 months.
11. Governing Law
These terms are governed by Portuguese law. Disputes will be resolved by the competent Portuguese courts.
